Elica Health Centers
Case Study
Sacramento Region, CA · 8-Site FQHC · 3 OroMed-Integrated Sites
For years, preventive dental care at Elica Health Centers depended on the dental department, a department already running at capacity. OroMed changed that equation entirely.

The Challenge
Elica Health Centers operates eight locations across the Sacramento region, serving a predominantly low-income, medically underserved population. Like many FQHCs, Elica's dental team was stretched.
Appointments were full. Preventive oral assessments — the first step in identifying oral health needs and connecting patients to care — were competing for the same limited slots as treatment.
Meanwhile, thousands of patients were walking through Elica's medical doors every month with no consistent pathway to preventive dental services. The opportunity was right there, embedded in every primary care visit. It just needed a smarter system to reach it.
What Elica needed wasn't more dental staff. It was a way to bring preventive dental care to where the patients already were.
The Approach
OroMed's virtual program integrates preventive dental evaluations directly into the medical visit workflow — without adding staff, without creating a parallel system, and without changing what the patient experiences when they walk through the door.
At Elica, the integration went live at three sites with a structured onboarding process and dedicated performance support from the OroMed team. Eligible patients began receiving preventive dental evaluations as a seamless part of their medical visit — not as a referral they might or might not follow through on, but as something that simply happened, right then, in the room.
By early 2026, all three sites were fully operational. And then the numbers started climbing.
The Results
What the numbers don't fully capture: these are patients who, before this integration, had no consistent pathway to preventive dental care. They were being missed because the system didn't have a place for them. Now it does.
